EDUCATION

Pilates Aotearoa is dedicated to recognising and maintaining professional standards for Pilates, which starts with the education providers who teach the base level instructor/teacher trainings, and ongoing professional development.

Education Course Providers

Our aim is to recognise Pilates Education Courses which are unique in their own respects, yet preserve and advance the work of Joe and Clara Pilates’ work.

A Pilates Aotearoa accredited Education Course has met the Base Criteria for providing instructor and teacher training in either or all of:

(A) Fitness Pilates Instructor – Matwork

(B) Fitness Pilates Instructor – Reformer; and/or

(C) Pilates Method Teacher

We will be opening to submissions for registering Pilates Education Courses in the second half of 2024. If you are interested registering your Pilates Education course, please click the button so you are kept in the loop.

Continuing Professional Development

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is compulsory for individual Pilates Aotearoa members. Engaging in professional development not only ensures competency and best practice by upskilling, it also fosters a sense of community, helps maintain motivation and safeguards standards for the Pilates profession.

Members' CPD Requirements

Individual Pilates Aotearoa members are required to gain 10 Continuing Professional Development points annually to renew their registration. There are two categories of CPD: verified CPD, and non-verified CPD - we allow a maximum of 50% of the CPD allowance to be taken on non-verified CPD.

Ways you can earn verified CPDs are:

  • attend verified CPD courses/workshops delivered by Pilates Aotearoa Registered CPD Providers;
  • attend Masterclasses hosted by Pilates Aotearoa, or watch the recorded event and pass a quiz assigned to that Masterclass

Examples of ways you can earn non-verified CPD are:

  • create and deliver a new Pilates Continued Professional Development programme
  • attend online Pilates-specific workshops, lectures, and conferences with other Pilates professionals, as long as the primary focus is education and up-skilling
  • 1-1 mentoring
  • any structured self-directed learning relevant to your scope of practise
  • research-based Pilates-specific activities
  • non-Pilates-based courses/workshops that are relevant to the practise of or business of Pilates, for example, business development, pathology, anatomy, physiology

Non-verified CPD options will require you to submit a short form outlining the duration of the activity, learning outcomes, and their relevance to your Pilates teaching/instruction.

CPD Deficit –  You can carry forward a shortfall of up to 10 CPD points in any one registration year. The deficit must be cleared in addition to the current points required in the following registration year.

CPD Credit – CPD point credits are valid for up to two re-registration years. If you have earned 20 CPD points during the current registration year (and didn’t have any shortfall in the prior registration year), will have 10 CPD Points carried forward to the next year's re-registration.
